Hearing it for Silence - a multidisciplinary solo exhibition of lighting and drawing held at St Heliers Street Gallery in the majestic Abbotsford Convent, mid 2018. Creating lighting conveys Sarah’s journey of rehabilitating her hearing with bi-neural cochlear implants. Light has a powerful effect on those who experience sensory deprivation in the form of hearing loss. With sound has come an illuminating light. The freehand drawings in pen are improvised with no preconceived planning, resembling 3D anatomical structures within the bionically enhanced human body. She embraces the challenge of creating a sense of enhanced dimensional form purely with line. Drawing is a meditative and hypnotic medium in which she experiences creative immersion in total silence.

Upon becoming bionically enhanced, the atmosphere became brighter; colours and the tactility of materials became more intense. The vibrancy and connection to the world around me comes into my forms and illustrations/ Colours morph and transform as they undergo their reaction with new atmospheres; via a collision of water, and heat. Cyber technology has enabled me a recent freedom. Working with vibrant pops of colour and the translucent light of porcelain encapsulates this feeling.
